On Tuesday the 30th of June, 11 enthusiastic photographers joined us at SunshineCo for a full day workshop with international wedding photographer and tutor, David Beckstead.
David has been named as one of the Top 10 Wedding Photographers in the World by American Photo Magazine in 2007. His style of photography is quite experimental and he can “create” a photo from basically nothing. Watching him shoot can do nothing less than inspire you to change the way you think about your every day environment which we normally write off as bland and uninteresting.
When David opened his lecture, he told the attendees to forget their normal way of shooting, to step over the lines and the break free of the proverbial box that confines them to a certain style of shooting. For that day, they were allowed, and encouraged, to shoot only for themselves.
David teaches with an excitement that is hard not to pick up. He is full of stories from the 80 odd countries he has already visited through his workshops and it is east to see that teaching is his passion. His laid-back approach to teaching simultaneously puts his students at ease whilst allowing them the freedom to ask questions and express their views on his work.
The workshop was hosted by Willem Foster from SunshineCo. and organised by DuWayne and Zani Denton from DuWayne Photography. Helga Strydom did an excellent job with the hair and make-up for the models, Dane Coetzee and Thea du Toit. Zani was in charge of styling and the overall coordination of the shoots.
We would like to thank all of the attendees for their enthusiasm on the day as well as a special thank you to Crossley & Webb who sponsored an amazing Porsche Speedster for the shoot in Gardens.
We look forward to welcoming David back again for another workshop soon and this time we will be bringing him to our Jozi studio as well. Like our Facebook page for regular updates of upcoming events and workshops.
