First Thursdays Pop-Up Competition
Calling all Johannesburg and Pretoria based photographers & instagrammers! SunshineCo is running an Instagram pop-up comp. You only have ONE WEEK to enter for your chance to win amazing prizes and be featured in an exhibition hosted during the hugely popular First Thursdays Rosebank, at SunshineCo Jozi studio, in the heart of the Keyes Art Mile. A judging panel will select the top 10 photos that will be printed free of charge and displayed at our SunshineCo Jozi studio on Thursday the 4th of May 2017.
In addition to the top 10 selected instagrammers having their work printed and exhibited, the panel of judges will also be selecting a winner of the competition at the event, who will walk away with photographic equipment to the value of R17 000.00!

Sponsors/Partners:
Black Bottle Whisky will be the official drinks supplier for the event and will be serving complimentary whisky cocktails throughout the evening.
AtPhoto Professional Imaging will supply the 10 finalists’ prints at no charge. The finalists can decide a price for their print, and should the print be sold, they will get the proceeds of the sale.
The ChilliChef Food Truck will be there again to sell some delicious food to the attendees of the event.
First Thursdays Johannesburg and Keyes Art Mile
Theme
The theme for the competition, #EmoteJozi , aims to highlight the different views and perceptions that people have of the city of Johannesburg. The city is often misunderstood and we hope that by showcasing the view of the locals, we can show that Jozi is as vibrant and alive as any other. You can submit new images taken specifically for the competition or you can submit old pictures, as long as it fits the criteria set out below. Go ahead, show us your city and what you love about it.
How to Enter
The competition opens on the 21st of April and entries close on the 28th of April at 12hoo. All you need to do is to post your entries on Instagram and tag @sunshinecoza & @atphoto_professional_imaging.
The hashtags to be used are #EmoteJozi #SunshineCo #AtPhoto #BlackBottleWhisky #ChilliChefFoodTruck.
All finalists will be notified on Friday the 28th of April at 17h00 and will need to submit a high-res, print quality copy of their photo with the following details (Full Name, Age, Email Address, Contact Number, Instagram handle) to [email protected] before Monday the 1st of May at 10h00.
The Event Details
The event will take place on the 4th of May, which coincides with First Thursdays Rosebank. As our studio is conveniently located on the Keyes Art Mile, we have decided to host monthly events as part of First Thursdays to promote photography as an art form. Currently, photography is very poorly represented in art galleries and we aim to change that.
Terms & Conditions
- Photos can be new or existing material.
- Photos must be submitted in hi-res print quality.
- All images remain the property of the photographer, including copyright.
- Finalist images will be used online for promotional purposes of the event, and the photographers will be credited.
- Prizes can only be claimed in person, attendance is required.
- Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Entrants limited to Gauteng area (JHB + Pretoria)
- Selected finalists have to complete and sign a form verifying that the image belongs to them before we print/exhibit.
